Since 2006 enviscope supports the helicopter based measurement system ACTOS on behalf of the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research e.V. (TROPOS). After a test flight in October 2016 at the airfield of Koblenz/Winningen the helicopter of the Rotorflug GmbH was shipped to the Azores. In July 2017 up to 17 successful measurement flights have been made with ACTOS and the radiation measurement system SMART-HELIOS of the Leipzig Institute for Meteorology at the University of Leipzig.

The helicopter carries the two measuring platforms on a 170 m long cable. SMART-HELIOS is located 20 m below the helicopter and measures radiative parameters above the clouds. ACTOS is fixed at the end of the cable and performs measurements on cloud microphysics, – dynamics, -thermodynamics and solar radiation within the cloud layer.
