As part of the GEOHALO mission enviscope GmbH and Gomolzig Flugzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH (GFM) with the collaboration of the German airworthiness authorities Luftfahrt Bundesamt (LBA) completed a major change for the aircraft HALO. HALO (Gulfstream G550) is operated by the DLR and was modified by Gulfstream with different penetrations through the fuselage for mounting scientific mission equipment.
In order to facilitate comparable modifications in the future, enviscope/GFM obtains a certification envelope for the “HALO Aperture Mounting Provisions (HAMP)”. In cooperation with the LBA the modification has been accomplished with a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). It covers the implementation of sensors in 10×7” and 10×14’’ apertures as well as the 17’’ side window including the structural adaption to the fuselage by a “retainer”.
enviscope GmbH and GFM accomplished the certification for the different sized instrument plates and the mounting devices (“retainer”) including the measurement equipment, which was neccessary for the GEOHALO Mission.
